In 1997, women contractors partnered with the Florida First Coast Chapter to establish a forum for women in construction to build relationships and provide networking opportunities. This partnership led to the creation of the ABC Women's Council.
The impact of the Women's Council grew in 1998 when the Council was asked to provide critical input to the City of Jacksonville in revising minority and women's business programs. The Council helped ensure women in construction were represented at the table during the development of the new program.
Today, the Women's Council continues to serve as a voice for women in construction and also leads ABC philanthropic initiatives and an annual student scholarship for a female enrolled in Building Construction at the University of North Florida.
Women's Council meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month. Meetings include speaker series, panel discussions, and roundtable conversations focused on construction topics and issues affecting women and small businesses.
