Gavin Finley – Evans General Contractors

What inspired you to enter the construction industry?

My family has always been in construction. My father ran a development firm, and every summer job I had involved running a demolition or renovation crew of some sort. It was a natural progression.

How has your company grown or evolved over the years?

Over my seven-year tenure with EGC, we have grown from $300 million to $2.3 billion in annual revenue. The EGC I joined is very different from the one you see today. We’ve expanded into new markets and scopes, grown our internal capabilities, and had the honor of watching our core group prosper and offer similar opportunities to like-minded individuals.

Where do you see your business headed in the next few years?

The Jacksonville-based Florida Division of Evans General Contractors will continue building on the momentum we’ve gained in North Florida and expand further south and west. We will also continue diversifying into market sectors, with an emphasis on manufacturing, advanced technology, life sciences, food and beverage, distribution, and corporate environments.

What does success look like to you?

  1. Negotiated, repeat business.
  2. Providing opportunities for motivated individuals.
  3. Outpacing expectations.

What value has ABC First Coast brought to your business?

ABC First Coast has been instrumental in helping EGC assimilate into the North Florida community. Organically growing our presence in a new market and contributing to the community are paramount to EGC’s core values. ABC has greatly assisted with those efforts.

How did you first get involved with ABC First Coast?

When EGC first allowed me to explore North Florida as an option for a new office, we began looking for organizations to help us get familiar with the local submarket. We were introduced to ABC First Coast when Karin came to one of our job sites and gave us an introductory presentation. We saw the value, and fast forward five years — here we are.

How has your involvement changed over time?

As our office has grown, I’ve been able to delegate some of the ancillary responsibilities that come with the division’s growth. As a result, we’ve assigned the field team to lead interactions with ABC, which has led to great success and collaboration so far.
