In 1997, women contractors partnered with the Florida First Coast Chapter to establish a forum for women in construction to build relationships and to provide networking opportunities. The partnership resulted in the establishment of ABC Women’s Council.
The muscle of the Women’s Council grew in 1998 when asked to provide critical input to the City of Jacksonville in revising minority and women's business programs by providing a voice for women in construction and ensuring women were represented at the table during the development of the new program.
Today, the Women’s Council continues to serve as a voice for women in construction but also take the lead for ABC in philanthropic endeavors and a student scholarship that is given annually to a female enrolled in Building Construction at the University of North Florida.Women’s Council meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month. Meetings consist of speaker series, panel discussions, and round table discussions focused on construction topics and the issues that affect women and small businesses.
